When to use this
- You want one printable page showing what you are cooking each day of the week.
- You want the shopping list to come from the meals you planned, with repeated items added up.
- You plan breakfast, lunch, dinner or snacks and want only the rows you use.
How to use
- Choose the first day of the week and tick the meals you plan each day.
- Optional: write your meals in the meal list, one per line, such as Pasta night: pasta, 2 tomatoes, onion.
- Press Build the grid and type a meal into each box. Use the same name as in your meal list.
- Press Make shopping list to see the plan and the items grouped and counted.
- Print the page, copy the text, or download the plan or the shopping list as a CSV.
Examples
- Pasta night on Monday and Wednesday, Omelette on Tuesday: Onion is used in 3 meals, tomatoes in 2 meals, and 2 tomatoes in each pasta meal add up to 4. Eggs from the omelette add up to 3.
- A meal name that is not in your list: A box such as Leftovers stays in the plan but adds nothing to the shopping list. The tool tells you which ones it could not match.
Understanding the result
The plan table repeats what you typed in the grid. The shopping list looks up each planned meal in your meal list, collects its items, and groups identical item names. Meals using it counts how many planned meals contain the item. If you typed a number at the start of an item, those numbers are added up in the last column.
Limitations
- The tool lays out your plan. It does not assess nutrition, dietary needs or portions, and it does not give advice about them.
- Nothing is saved between visits. Print, copy or download your plan before you close the page.
- Only exact meal names match. Spelling differences between the grid and your meal list will leave a meal off the shopping list, and the tool tells you which ones.
- Amounts with different units, such as 2 cups rice and 300 g rice, are not combined.
FAQ
How do I make a weekly meal planner?
Choose the days and the meals you plan, then type one meal in each box. This tool draws the grid, and you can print it or copy it as text.
How does the shopping list work?
You write each meal and its items once in the meal list. When you type the same meal name in the grid, its items go on the list, and the same items from different meals are added together.
Why is one of my meals missing from the shopping list?
Its name does not match a line in the meal list, so the tool had no items for it. The notes under the list show which meals were not matched.
Can I plan only dinners?
Yes. Untick breakfast and lunch and the grid shows one column. You can add snacks as a fourth column.
Is my meal plan saved or sent anywhere?
No. Everything stays in your browser and is gone when you close the page, so print or copy it first.
Does the tool check if my plan is healthy?
No. It only organises the meals you choose. It gives no nutrition or dietary advice.
